MATERIALS

Yarn – 3 balls of Knitca Delight yarn, 100% superwash merino wool, 150m / 164yds in a 50g / 1.7oz ball. Stole in the photo is shown in amber colour.

Needles – 4.5mm (US7) straight needles

Notions – wool needle

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Width – 30cm / 12”
Length – 110cm / 43.5”

GAUGE

19 stitches and 26 rows = 4” / 10cm in lace pattern stitch after blocking

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cast on 56 stitches.

2. Work 6 rows in garter stitch with selvages as follows: slip 1 stitch, knit all stitches to last stitch, purl the last stitch.

3. Starting with row 7, work in lace stitch with garter edges as follows:

Row 1: slip 1, knit 3, [yarn over, knit 2 stitches together], work brackets to last 4 stitches, knit 3, purl 1
Row 2: slip 1, knit all stitches to last stitch, purl 1
Row 3: slip 1, knit 3, [knit 2 stitches together, yarn over], work brackets to last 4 stitches, knit 3, purl 1
Row 4: slip 1, knit all stitches to last stitch, purl 1

Repeat rows 1 – 4 till you complete 28cm /11” from the cast on edge finishing with row 3 of the stitch pattern.

4. Turn your work and work row 1 of the stitch pattern. Now right and wrong sides of the lace stitch have changed.
Repeat rows 1 – 4 till you complete 55cm (21.5”) from the cast on edge finishing with row 3 of the stitch pattern.

5. Turn your work and work row 1 of the stitch pattern. Now right and wrong sides of the lace stitch has changed again.
Repeat rows 1 – 4 till you complete 82cm (32”) from the cast on edge finishing with row 3 of the stitch pattern.

6. Turn your work and work row 1 of the stitch pattern. Now right and wrong sides of the lace stitch has changed for the third time.
Repeat rows 1 – 4 till you complete 109cm (43”) from the cast on edge.

7. Work 6 rows in garter stitch with selvages as follows: slip 1 stitch, knit all stitches to last stitch, purl the last stitch.

8. Bind off all stitches. Weave in loose ends. Block stole to measurements.

If you want to make a loger stole, work step 4 more than once before moving to step 5 of the pattern. Every repeat of step 4 will add 27cm / 10.5″ to the length of the stole. Keep in mind that you will need more than 3 balls of yarn for a longer version of the stole.
