This cowl is worked flat to make a half circle. Then it is worked in the round using the magic loop method.

Gauge

16 sts by 24 rows in stockinette = 4” square (blocked)

K2tog = knit 2 together

Instructions

Garter Tab

Co 2, knit 6 rows, without turning pick up 3 sts along the garter edge, pick up 2 sts of the co edge. You will have 7 sts on your needle.

Row 1: K2, (P 1, yo) 3 times, K2. (10)
Row 2: K
Row 3: K2, (P1, yo, pm) 6 times, k 2. (16)
Row 4: K
Row 5: K2, P to last 2 sts, K2.
Row 6: (K to sm, yo, pm) 6 times, K to end. (22)
Row 7: K2, P to last 2 sts, K2.
Row 8: K
Row 9: K2, (P to sm, yo, pm) 6 times, P to last 2 sts, K2. (28)
Row 10: K
Row 11: K2, P to last 2 sts, K2.

Repeat rows 6-11 until you have 20 sts between each sm ending with a repeat of row 9.

Using the magic loop method you will now start working in the round. Remove all stitch markers and add one to mark the beginning of the round.

Rounds 1-2: K
Round 3: (k2tog, yo) around.
Rounds 4-5: K
Repeat rounds 3-5 four more times.
Knit 2 more rounds.
Bind off as normal or use the picot bind off method. The sample has a picot bind off

Picot Bind Off
1. Co 2 sts.
2. K 2.
3. Pass the 1st st over the 2nd st on the right needle.
4. K 1, pass the 1st st over the 2nd st on the right needle.
5. Repeat step 4 twice.
6. Pass the last st on the right needle back to the left needle.
Repeat steps 1-6 around.

Fasten off, block, weave in ends.
