Materials:

  • Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Ombre, 100% acrylic, 10 oz (283 g), 482 yards (440 m), in the color “True Blue” 3962: 1 skein.
  • Circular knitting needles, 40" (100 cm) long, size US 10 (6 mm).
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Ring stitch marker.

Measurements: width =65 inch (165 cm), height = 20.5 inch (52 cm), approx.

Gauge: 14 sts and 26 rows = 4"x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in garter stitch.

Yardage: 425 - 435 yards (390 - 400 m) approx.


Knitting Terms

  • st: stitch.
  • sts: stitches.
  • k: knit.
  • p: purl.
  • yo: yarn over.
  • k2tog: knit 2 sts together.
  • ssk: slip, slip, knit the 2 sts together through back loops.
  • ring sm : ring stitch marker.
Instructions:

Important note before you start: when you reach this part "Bring the working yarn to the front under the needle, ssk" you will have a yarn over (yo) that crosses over the ssk.

Cast on 97 sts, k one row (wrong side), put the ring sm before last st, then work as follows:

Row 1: k 1, yo, slip sm, k 1 (center st), yo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog.

Row 2: k2tog, k to end.

Row 3: p to sm, yo, slip sm, k 1 (center st), yo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog.

Row 4: k2tog, k to sm, p to end.

Row 5: k 1, bring the working yarn to front under the needle, ssk, yo, slip sm, k 1 (center st), yo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog.

Row 6: repeat row 4.

Row 7: p to sm, yo, slip sm, k 1 (center st), yo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog.

Row 8: repeat row 4.


General pattern:

Row 1: k 1, * bring the working yarn to the front under the needle, ssk, repeat from * to sm, yo, slip sm, k 1 (center st), yo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog.

Row 2: k2tog, k to sm, p to end.

Row 3: p to sm, yo, slip sm, k 1 (center st), yo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog.

Row 4: repeat row 2.

Repeat rows (1- 4) pattern 21 times. repeat rows (1-2) once. (97 sts)

Decreasing Rows:

Row 1: bind off 4 sts purlwise, p to sm, yo, slip sm, k 1 (center st), yo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog. (94 sts)

Row 2: k2tog, k to sm, p to end. (93 sts)

Row 3: k 1, * bring the working yarn to the front under the needle, ssk, repeat from * to sm, yo, slip sm, k 1 (center st), yo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog. (94 sts)

Row 4: repeat row 2. (93 sts)

Note: 4 sts are decreased in each pattern repetition.

Repeat rows (1- 4) pattern 22 times, remove sm. (9 sts)

Last rows:

Row 1: bind off 3 sts purlwise (p 1 is left before ring sm), (yo, k 1) twice, k 1, k2tog. (7 sts)

Row 2: k2tog, k 3, p 2. (6 sts)

Row 3: k 2, (yo, k 1) twice, k2tog. (7 sts)

Row 4: k2tog, k 2, p 3. (6 sts)

Row 5: bind off the remaining 6 sts purlwise. Cut yarn. Weave in loose ends. Block if needed.
