Materials:

  • Suggested Yarn: PoloSu, Softly Lux, (100% premium anti-pilling acrylic, 3.5 oz (100 g), 274 yards (250 m), in the following colors and quantities: cream 402 (1skein), brick color 440 (1 skein) and black 435 (1skein).
  • Circular knitting needles, 16" (40 cm) long, sizes US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 7 (4.5 mm).
  • Double pointed needles (DPNs) set, size US 7 (4.5 mm).
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Ring stitch marker.

Sizes and measurements:

  • Size 3-5 years: head circumference = 19.5"- 20.5" (50 - 52 cm), height = 8" (20. cm).
  • Size 6-9 years: head circumference = 20.5"- 21.25" (52 - 54 cm), height = 8.7" (22 cm).
  • Size 10-12 years: head circumference = 21.25" - 22" (54 - 56 cm), height = 9.5" (24 cm).

Yardage:

  • Size 3-5 years:55 - 58 yards (100 - 102 m), approx.
  • Size 6-9 years: 83- 85 yards (135 - 137 m), approx.
  • Size 10-12 years: 113- 115 yards (145 - 147 m), approx.

Gauge:22 sts and 28 rounds = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch and US 7 (4.5 mm) needles.

Knitting Terms:

  • st: stitch.
  • sts: stitches.
  • k: knit.
  • p: purl.
  • k2tog: knit two stitches together.

Instructions:

With size US 4 (3.5 mm) circular knitting needles and brick color yarn, cast on 96 (102, 104) sts. Join in the round.

Put a ring stitch marker at the beginning of rounds, purl one round, then work as follows:

Rib round: k 1, p 1, repeat to end.

Repeat the rib round 5 (6, 7) more times. Switch to size US 7 (4.5 mm) circular knitting needles and purl one round, then repeat the rib round eight (ten, eleven)times. Knit one round and purl one round.

For Size 3-5 years, knit one round. Size 6-9 years,knit one round increasing 3 sts (105 sts). For Size 10-12 years, knit one round increasing 8 sts (112 sts).

Bind black yarn and work Spider Pattern Chart. Knit three rounds.

For Size 6-9 years, knit the first round decreasing 1 st (104 sts).

Bind cream yarn and work the Pattern Chart. Cut brick color and black yarn. With cream yarn knit 5 (7, 10) rounds.

At the end of all previous rounds, there are 96 (104,112) sts.

Decreasing Rounds:

Round 1: k 10 (11, 12), k2tog, repeat to end. [88 (96, 104) sts]

Rounds 2, 4, 6, 8: k to end.

Round 3: k 9 (10, 11), k2tog, repeat to end. [80 (88, 96) sts]

Round 5:k 8 (9, 10), k2tog, repeat to end. [72 (80, 88) sts].

Round 7: k 7 (8, 9), k2tog, repeat to end. [64 (72, 80) sts]

Round 9: k 6 (7, 8), k2tog, repeat to end. [56 (64, 72) sts]

Change to DPNs when needed.

Size 3-5 years:

Round 10: k 5, k2tog, repeat to end. (48 sts)

Round 11: k 4, k2tog, repeat to end. (40 sts)

Round 12: k 3, k2tog, repeat to end. (32 sts)

Size 6-9 years:

Round 10 : k to end.

Round 11: k 6,k2tog, repeat to end. (56 sts)

Round 12: k 5, k2tog, repeat to end. (48 sts)

Round 13: k 4, k2tog, repeat to end. (40 sts)

Round 14: k 3, k2tog, repeat to end. (32 sts)

Size 10-12 years:

Round 10 : k to end.

Round 11: k 7,k2tog,repeat to end. (64 sts)

Round 12 : k to end.

Round 13: k 6,k2tog, repeat to end. (56 sts)

Round 14: k 5, k2tog, repeat to end. (48 sts)

Round 15: k 4, k2tog, repeat to end. (40 sts)

Round 16: k 3, k2tog, repeat to end. (32 sts)

All sizes: k2tog to end in the next 2 rounds. (8 sts)

Cut yarn, leaving a 6" (15 cm) long yarn tail, pull it through all sts and tighten together. Weave in loose ends.
