SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Bernat Giggles (3.5 oz/100 g; 185 yds/169 m): 5 balls Cheerful Blue (A), 1 ball White (B)
  • Size U.S. 8 circular knitting needle 40" long or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • MEASUREMENT
  • Approx 36" square (excluding hood)

  • GAUGE
  • 18 sts and 24 rows = 4" in stocking st.

  • DIRECTIONS:

  • Blanket
  • With A cast on 162 sts. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle in rows, proceed as follows:
  • Knit 6 rows [garter st], noting 1st row is RS.
  • Proceed in pat as follows:
  • Row 1: [RS]. Knit.
  • Row 2: K5. Purl to last 5 sts. K5.
  • Rep these 2 rows until work from beg measures 35", ending on a 2nd row.
  • Row 1: [RS]. Knit.
  • Row 2: K47. P68. K47.
  • Rep these 2 rows 3 more times.
  • Next row: Cast off 47 sts. K68 and place on st holder for Hood. Cast off rem 47 sts.

  • Hood
  • Slip 68 sts from st holder onto working needle. Rejoin A.
  • Row 1: [RS]. Knit.
  • Row 2: K5. Purl to last 5 sts. K5.
  • Rep last 2 rows until Hood measures 7½", ending on a 2nd row.
  • Cast off. Sew top Hood seam.

  • Ears [make 2]
  • Outer Ear: With A cast on 16 sts.
  • Beg on a knit row, work 16 rows stocking st.
  • Row 1: [RS]. K2tog. Knit to last 2 sts. ssk.
  • Row 2: Purl.
  • Rep last 2 rows until 8 sts rem, ending on a 2nd row.
  • Cast off.

  • Inner Ear: With B cast on 13 sts.
  • Beg on a knit row, work 14 rows stocking st.
  • Row 1: [RS]. K2tog. Knit to last 2 sts. ssk.
  • Row 2: Purl.
  • Rep last 2 rows until 7 sts rem, ending on a 2nd row.
  • Cast off.

  • With A and with RS of pieces facing each other, sew edges of Outer and Inner Ear tog, leaving cast on edges free. Turn right-side out and gather cast on edges through cast on sts. Sew Ears to Hood as shown in picture.
