How to Make a Needle Knit Bowl Cozy

A knitted bowl cozy is a charming, practical, and eco-friendly accessory designed to protect and insulate bowls made of ceramic, glass, or metal. This handmade item, crafted from soft yarn or fabric, helps maintain the temperature of the bowl's contents, be it hot or cold, while adding a touch of warmth and aesthetics to your dining experience. It's an excellent DIY project for those who enjoy knitting or crocheting and want to enhance their kitchenware with a personalized, sustainable touch.

NOTES

This cozy is made by knitting 4 garter stitch triangles that are shaped with increases and decreases. These triangles are then seamed together using the 3 needle bind off method. If you prefer, you may use a whip stitch to seam the triangles.

INSTRUCTIONS

Triangles: (MAKE 4)

Cast on 3 sts.

Foundation Row: Knit 3.

Row 1: Kfb, k to end of row.

Repeat Row 1 until you have 32 (38) sts.

Before beginning the next row (RS), count 16 (19) sts [halfway] and place a marker. Also mark RS of knitting with locking stitch marker.

Row 2 (RS): Kfb, K to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker, ssk, k to end of row.
Row 3: Kfb, k to end of row.

Rep Rows 2-3 twice.

Bind off loosely.

NOTE: On 2 triangles leave a 1.5-2 yard tail for seaming. All other tails should be woven in before seaming.

Make 4 total.

Seaming:

Place the triangles RS up on table in front of you with bottom points toward the center and side edges lined up. (Your pieces should resemble a 4-leaf clover. See image below.)

Bowl Cozy Seaming

Use long yarn tails to make 2 seams along side edges using the 3 needle bind off method. Weave in remaining tails.
