APPROXIMATE SIZE: 21-24 inches, depth (9.5) 11.5 inches

MATERIALS:

  • Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool or other worsted weight wool 3.5 ounces
  • US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) 16 inch circular needle
  • US size 11 (8.0 mm) 16 inch circular needle
  • US size 11 (8.0 mm) double pointed needles
  • Tapestry needle
  • Marker

GAUGE: Ribbing 8 stitches = 4 inches, 14 rows = 3 inches

NOTES:

1. Cap is worked with two strands of yarn throughout.

2. Can knit two caps with one skein Paton’s Classic held w/ LB Fisherman’s.

INSTRUCTIONS:
With 10.5 circular needle cast on 68 sts. Join and work in the round.

Place marker to denote beginning of round.

Rounds 1-9:K2, P2. Repeat around. (68 sts)

Should be about 2 inches from cast on edge.

Remainder of cap is knit with US 11 needle(s)

Knit even until cap is about 6.5 inches from cast on edge.

Begin decreases.

Dec Round 1: *K32, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (66 sts)

Dec Round 2:Knit. (66 sts)

Dec Round 3:*K9, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (60 sts)

Dec Round 4: Knit (60 sts)

Dec Round 5: *K8, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (54 sts)

Dec Round 6: Knit (54 sts)

Dec Round 7: *K7, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (48 sts)

Change to dpn

Dec Round 8: Knit (48 sts)

Dec Round 9: *K6, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (42 sts)

Dec Round 10: *K5, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (36 sts)

Dec Round 11: *K4, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (30 sts)

Dec Round 12: *K3, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (24 sts)

Dec Round 13: *K2, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (18 sts)

Dec Round 14: *K1, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (12 sts)

Finish: Cut yarn leaving 6 inch tails. Use tapestry needle to run yarn tails through the stitches and pull to close.

Weave in ends.

WOMAN’S INSTRUCTIONS:
With 10.5 circular needle cast on 64 sts. Join and work in the round.

Place marker to denote beginning of round.

Rounds 1-7: K2, P2. Repeat around. (64 sts)

Should be about 1.5 inches from cast on edge.

Remainder of cap is knit with US 11 needle(s)

Knit even until cap is about 5 inches from cast on edge.

Begin decreases.

Dec Round 1: *K14, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (60 sts)

Dec Round 2:Knit. (60 sts)

Dec Round 3: *K8, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (54 sts)

Dec Round 4: Knit (54 sts)

Dec Round 5: *K7, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (48 sts)

Change to dpn

Dec Round 6: Knit (48 sts)

Dec Round 7: *K6, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (42 sts)

Dec Round 8: *K5, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (36 sts)

Dec Round 9: *K4, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (30 sts)

Dec Round 10: *K3, K2tog. Repeat from * around. (24 sts)
