Knitted Chevron Hat

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off
-Decreasing: knit 2 together (k2tog); slip, slip, knit (ssk); slip 1 st, knit the next 2 sts together, then pass slipped st over (sk2p)
-Increasing: make 1 (m1)

Size: Hat circumference is 19 1/2" (50 cm) unstretched; hat stretches to fit most adult heads.
Height from edge of brim to top center of crown is 11" (27 cm)

Materials: Tweed Chunky super bulky weight yarn 55 yards (50 meters) / 50 gr, color 282 Midnight - 2 balls (MC)
Small amount of contrast color yarn of the same weight for the stripes.(CC)

Needles: straight US 10.5 (6.5 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 12 sts x 24 rows = 4" x 4" (10cm x 10cm) in garter st.

K – knit
P – purl
k2tog - knit 2 sts together
ssk – slip, slip, knit
sk2p - Slip next stitch, knit the next 2 sts together, then pass slipped stitch over.
St, sts – stitch, stitches
RS – right side
WS – wrong side
m1 - - (Make 1 increase) - Make a backward loop over the right-hand needle and in the next row knit (purl) it as a regular stitch.
MC – main color
CC – contrast color

Pattern Notes:

The selvedge/edge stitches are worked here as follows: slip the first stitch and purl the last one.

Rows 35-36: repeat rows 33-34.

Cut yarn, leaving a 20" (50 cm) tail, Pull through all the remaining sts and secure.

Rows 8-16 – MC
Rows 17-18 – CC
Rows 19-26 – MC
Rows 27-28 – CC
Rows 29-36 – MC
Rows 37-38 – CC
Rows 39-52 - MC


Fold the sides of the hat face to face. Sew them together, starting from the top of the hat. Stop 3” (7.5 cm) from the bottom edge. Turn the hat right side out and finish sewing, this time on the outside of the hat. This is the brim portion that will be folded up, so the seam will not be visible
Weave in yarn ends.
